The Opposition Leader insists she was given several hours’ notice of a speech by Liberal frontbencher James Paterson where he urged his party to stop “soul searching” after this year’s election defeat and focus on winning back office.

In a speech on Tuesday night the Shadow Finance Minister warned against embracing “false choices” such as copying Teal policies or following the approach of UK right-wing populist Nigel Farage.

Five months on from Labor’s decisive election win, Senator Paterson also pointedly suggested “we must call time on the apology tour” and warned “an ongoing mass public therapy session doesn’t exactly scream ‘ready for government’.”
