Cleanup efforts are wrapping up near Wasilla, after a diesel spill at Finger Lake State Recreation Site.

Alaska State Parks say a sheen was seen flowing from the parking area down the boat launch into Finger Lake on Monday. Officials believe the fuel came from a truck, with less than 55 gallons spilled.

Mat-Su Borough Haz-Mat crews were called in to stop the spread, and more than 60 tons of contaminated soil had to be dug out.

“When we are done with this process, we will contract to have it picked up and it will be taken to an incinerator to basically burn all the soil and get rid of the diesel,” said Stuart Leidner with Alaska State Parks.
