GIRARD Girard City Council recently approved a one-year moratorium on the burials of family members on private property within city limits.
This means for at least one year, no one can have a private burial on their property or create a family cemetery.
Girard Fourth Ward Councilman Tom Grumley tells 21 News this ordinance was passed after it was brought to council's attention that there were no laws in place.
This one-year ordinance will give council members time to discuss the issue and draft legislation on how to handle burials moving forward.
