Two members of a family were hospitalised due to suffocation after a fire broke out in a residential building in the Goregaon area of Mumbai early on Wednesday, while in another incident, a minor fire broke out within South Mumbai’s Crawford Market.

The Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) officials at the Goregaon blaze site said the fire originated from inside the bedroom of a flat on the second floor of the ground-plus-seven-storey residential building around 4 am.

“According to primary observations, the fire originated from within the electrical installations and spread further through the air conditioning duct. The presence of household combustible items like wooden furniture, beds, and books further intensified the blaze,” said an officer, adding that the blaze was extinguished around 4.15
