Despite repeated and relentless tariff tantrums, arm-twisting, trash-talk , and sanction sabres by US President Donald Trump and his aides, India has kept Russia its top oil supplier in September, sourcing 34% of its crude imports from Moscow. However, there was a 10% drop in oil imports from Russia since January.

The latest figures from the Belgian commodities and shipping market tracker Kpler come amid Trump's imposition of a 50% tariff on imports from India this August. This included an additional 25% penalty on purchases of Russian oil. Washington has insisted that New Delhi halt its crude imports from Moscow as a precondition for negotiating a favourable trade deal.
