SEATTLE—The Blue Jays could be facing elimination when they take the field Thursday night for Game 4 of the American League championship series — or they might be trailing two games to one — but they’ll have their Hall-of-Famer on the mound.

Max Scherzer is going to start Game 4, manager John Schneider announced during the Jays’ off-day workout Tuesday. It will be the 41-year-old’s first outing since a Sept. 24 loss to the Boston Red Sox in which he allowed four runs on a season-high 10 hits over four innings.

Giving up a run an inning was par for the course for the end of Scherzer’s season. Over his final six starts, the right-hander allowed 25 runs in 25 innings of work.
