The Supreme Court on Wednesday permitted the sale and bursting of green crackers in Delhi-NCR under strict conditions ahead of Diwali.

The court said that offline sales would be allowed from October 18 to October 21, marking a limited relaxation of the firecracker ban.

The bench clarified that only green crackers with QR codes approved by the CSIR–NEERI would be permitted, while online sales remain prohibited.

The court also noted that the decision is being implemented on a trial basis, aiming to strike a balance between festive celebrations and environmental concerns.

Diwali will be celebrated on October 20 this year.

Timings and restrictions

Cracker bursting will only be allowed from 6 am to 7 am and from 8 pm to 10 pm during the four-day window.
