The Sun Valley Jazz and Music Festival, a fall staple since 1989, returns on Oct. 16 through 19. More than 100 performances are scheduled for four venues at the Sun Valley Resort, including the Limelight Ballroom, the Continental Room, the Inn Lobby Lounge and the Boiler Room, affectionately renamed “Satchmo’s”—the nickname for legendary trumpeter Louis Armstrong

While the festival started as the Sun Valley Swing ‘n Dixie Jazz Jamboree, it has since morphed into the more inclusive “jazz and music” festival, with offerings that span Western swing, blues, gospel, big band, zydeco and, new this year, an Eagles (and Tom Petty and Creedance Clearwater Revival) tribute band called Motel Kalifornia.
