HURRICANE — A new Hurricane Middle School could open to students in the fall of 2028, said Assistant Superintendent for Administrative Services Bruce McGrew.
McGrew said the goal of Putnam County Schools is to have the new building, which will be situated in the lot directly next to Hurricane High School at 3350 Teays Valley Road, substantially completed by June or July 2028 and potentially open to students by that fall.
He said the total cost of the new building is estimated to be over $64 million. The county is using School Building Authority funds granted last year of nearly $25 million, divided up as about $8.3 million awarded each year in Fiscal Years 2025, 2026 and 2027.
