Damari Alston’s departure from the Auburn football program on Monday was felt in multiple ways.

He was one of the team’s top two running backs and began the season as the starter. Through four games played, he rushed for 128 yards and a touchdown on 32 carries.

On top of that, Alston was a team captain and a popular figure in Auburn’s locker room. Numerous players posted positive messages about him on social media after the news broke, and a few players spoke with reporters on Tuesday about Alston’s departure.

"I love DA with all my heart. He’s a great dude, great player," said starting quarterback Jackson Arnold. “What happened was unfortunate, but I really don’t know anything more than that to go into detail.”
