A referee in the Kontinental Hockey League has received a tremendously harsh punishment for blowing a call in the SKA St. Petersburg vs. Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg game on Monday.

SKA St. Petersburg, coached by Hockey Hall of Famer and Detroit Red Wings legend Igor Larionov, defeated Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg 2-1 thanks to one of the strangest “one-in-a-million” plays and blown calls you’ll ever see.

As you can see in the clip below, SKA defenseman Andrei Pedan was awarded a goal in the third period to put his team up 2-1. But as you can see from multiple angles below, the puck actually entered through a gap in the side of the net and thus shouldn’t have counted:

The goal inexplicably held up, and it cost one of the on-ice officials his job.
