NBC10 has confirmed that an off-duty firefighter was found dead at a home in the Holmesburg section of Northeast Philadelphia on Wednesday morning.

And, police said that a homicide investigation is now underway.

However, officials did not immediately provide further information on just what happened at the home on the 5700 block of Shelmire Avenue, where police and fire crews were working early Wednesday.

According to Daniel McCarty, executive chief of the Philadelphia Fire Department, fire crews were at the scene on Wednesday morning and his department was working with the Philadelphia Police Department following an incident at a home on that block.
