Major funding changes to federal medical care and food assistance programs approved since President Donald Trump started his second term in January were topics of discussion at a forum held at The Nelson Center on Friday.

The forum, sponsored by Concerned Nelsonians, also featured a Wintergreen Rescue Squad member who spoke about a program that sends paramedics on home visits to Nelson County residents.

In his presentation, Michael Cook, a partner and co-chair of Liles Parker Health Care Group, addressed how the passage of the so-called One Big Beautiful Bill Act by Congress in July, supported by Trump and congressional Republicans, will drastically cut Medicaid benefits over the next few years.
