CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - A man convicted of killing Chris Bagley is requesting a new trial.
A jury found Andrew Shaw guilty of second-degree murder in August.
Shaw is scheduled to be sentenced in November, facing up to 50 years in prison. Shaw had two men, Drew Wagner and Johnny Church, formerly known as Drew Blahnik, kill Bagley in December 2018.
Shaw requested a new trial on October 9. His defense argues that “the jury was improperly instructed,” the verdict went against the evidence presented at trial and the trial was unfair.
He was acquitted from charges of solicitation to commit murder and conspiracy to commit a forcible felony, as the jury didn’t think Shaw paid to have Bagley murdered.
