ABBEVILLE — No one disputes the need for renovations at the Abbeville County Courthouse, but at least one county official wants to see some figures.
Discussions about the cost estimates and a timeline for the work have focused on a few engineering firms, County Director Brian Moon said. The first step will be an assessment of the condition of the courthouse. The $5.75 million project will have to be performed in phases, which likely will have to align with grant opportunities, he said.
Officials also have been looking into other sources of funding, such as grant programs, including talking with representatives with U.S. Rep. Sherri Biggs’ office. Moon said at the Monday meeting that energy and utility cost abatement programs are another option for funding.
