FAIRVIEW PARK, Ohio -- Voters in Fairview Park won’t be too busy on Election Day.

While all five ward seats are up for election, only one incumbent sort of faces any competition.

Despite the naming of Ward 5’s Bridget King as the new council president, which was vacated last month by Michael Kilbane, the councilwoman remains on the ballot against Jeffrey J. Szemplak.

“The residents in Ward 5 still have a voice and their vote still matters,” King said. “What will happen, because voting started, I am on the ballot and I can win this election.

“If I won, in January I would get to pick, do I maintain the presidency or do I go back to the Ward 5 seat?”

The remaining ward seats up for election find neither incumbents nor newcomers facing any competition.
