LAKEWOOD, Ohio -- FirstEnergy is currently before the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) seeking to lower its obligations to the public for providing safe and reliable power.
That’s why on Oct. 7, Lakewood officially filed a joint motion along with Barberton to intervene in the case.
“Basically, what that means is they’re asking for PUCO to allow them to increase the wait times and response times to get the electric turned back on when it goes out,” Lakewood Mayor Meghan George said.
“That’s why we filed the intervention because we have a direct interest in the outcome of that case before PUCO. If the liability standards are lowered, then we lose another way to hold FirstEnergy accountable for service disruptions. This is getting us a seat at the table.”
