A Derbyshire village playground has been torn down after three locals pursued legal action against a parish council over "noisy" football matches. Locals in the scenic village of Chapel-en-le-Frith , on the edge of Derbyshire's Peak District , have been left furious after council workers began ripping up the sports facility.

The multi-use games area (MUGA) was opened in the village's Memorial Park in 2010 following a community fundraising campaign. Soon after, three residents lodged complaints with the council about the sound of "bouncing footballs" hitting the metal barriers.
