ESMERALDA COUNTY, Nev. (KOLO) - The Trump Administration has canceled the Esmeralda 7 solar project in Esmeralda County.

The project was set to generate up to 6.2 gigawatts of energy once completed, which would have been enough to power two million homes.

The project’s status was changed to cancelled on the BLM Federal permitting website last week.

Department officials say the change has nothing to do with current government shutdown, but instead is due to a new government approach surrounding the project.
