AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A former Burke County deputy has files a lawsuit against Sheriff Alfonzo Williams.

Ex-deputy Tanner Baughman filed the lawsuit on Sept. 4, claiming the lawsuit “arises from Baughman’s refusal to participate in unlawful, unethical favoritism shown to Sheriff Alfonzo Williams’s friend and political ally, Robert ‘Andy’ McCafferty.”

Suspect sought after Helms College student found dead in parking lot

A Helms College student was found dead in the college’s parking lot on Monday night, according to authorities.

The lawsuit claims after McCafferty started an argument and damaged his daughter’s windshield , Baughman and another deputy determined McCafferty should be charged with as felony criminal damage to property and constituted family violence.
