Not a bad long weekend for the Stratford Hunter Steel Warriors.

Gage Hurst recorded his first junior hockey shutout in Friday’s 4-0 victory over Listowel at Allman Arena. The 15-year-old rookie from Michigan – an Erie Otters’ fifth-round draft pick – made 21 saves in his second start.

Offensively, Grady Murphy scored a pair of goals. Both came late in the third period on a power play after Listowel’s Noah Vandenberg was whistled for instigating, cross-checking and fighting.

Jack McGurn and Colin Slattery had the other goals, and Dominic Marshall and Matthew Blake each picked up a pair of helpers.

Ethan Kowatsch made 24 saves for Listowel.

Sunday in Chatham, McGurn scored the shootout winner in a 3-2 victory over the defending Sutherland Cup champion Maroons. M
