Gov. Jeff Landry declared a moratorium Wednesday on new applications for carbon capture injection wells in Louisiana and wants state regulators to prioritize review of the more than 30 applications already before them.

Tracking recent changes in state law and internal directives from his current and former conservation and energy secretaries, Landry's order calls for greater steps by existing applicants to seek out public and local government input. Landry's order also calls for requiring companies to take a number of steps before their projects can get on a coming priority list for review.
