Dr Soumya Swaminathan, former chief scientist at the World Health Organisation (WHO) and chairperson of the M S Swaminathan Foundation, was presented with an honorary Doctor of Laws by the University of Guelph. She told The Indian Express it was a great honour to be recognised by the University of Guelph, one of the oldest agricultural and veterinary universities in Canada. “We hope to collaborate on One Health and Anti-Microbial Resistance,” she said.

The citation read, “As an international health policymaker and global citizen, Dr Soumya Swaminathan stands as a beacon of excellence in the fight to bring equitable healthcare to everyone, particularly underserved communities in the Global South.”
