LAYTON — Officials investigating the fire that burned a Layton apartment building have determined the blaze was not human-caused or suspicious in nature.

The Layton City Fire Department’s investigative team is still looking into the official cause and origin of the blaze that destroyed portions of the Layton Meadows Apartments building.

According to a press release from the fire department, the city has deemed the 24-unit apartment complex uninhabitable. The total cost of the loss was nearly $3 million, with both the $2.3 million apartment complex itself and an estimated $500,000 to $600,000 in content loss within the apartments.

The fire department has turned the scene back over to the property management group to determine the next steps.
