A 14-year-old boy was arraigned in Salem Juvenile Court on Tuesday in connection with a shooting in Beverly that sent a person to a hospital, officials said.

The boy, whose name was not released because of his age, is charged with armed assault with intent to murder and assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker said in a statement .

No further information about his case was available.

Beverly police responded to the shooting on Simon Street after receiving reports of gunfire shortly after 7:15 p.m., the police department said in a statement . At the scene, they found a person with gunshot wounds.
