The Ontario Football Conference has apologized for an officiating error that cost the London Beefeaters a chance to play in a sixth straight championship game.
The Beefs were up 23-20 and blocked the Hamilton Hurricanes’ 35-yard field goal as time expired in their semifinal tilt this past weekend at City Wide Sports Park. But the home team was incorrectly deemed to have too many men on the field and they were assessed a five-yard penalty while Hamilton was granted an untimed second chance.
The Canes successfully kicked the 30-yarder, then won the game 24-23 on a single in overtime.
