LINCOLN, Neb. (WOWT) - The ICE detention center in McCook will be operational in a little more than two weeks.

Gov. Jim Pillen’s office confirmed to First Alert 6 on Tuesday that the regional facility to house illegal immigrants would be up and running by Saturday, Nov. 1.

As of Tuesday, Pillen’s team confirmed the building is now empty as every single inmate - nearly 200 - has been moved to other correctional facilities, mostly in Lincoln and Omaha.

Pillen made a statement about the date Tuesday while in Norfolk , where he signed an executive order at Northeast Community College focused on apprenticeships for young Nebraskans.
