GREENPOINT — GREENPOINT RESIDENT Zayd Nubani was tapping in at the Lafayette Avenue subway station Tuesday morning, headed with his board to surf the post-storm swells, only to be notified that he was the 1 billionth subway rider of the year. Confetti flew and cameras flashed as Nubani was presented with a $100 gift card and transit swag by top Metropolitan Transit Authority honchos, including MTA Chair Janno Lieber.

“This has been a crazy detour,” Nubani said. “I was going to surf the Nor’easter today and didn’t expect this to happen. I’m super happy to be the billionth. MTA, you guys are awesome. I ride you every day!”
