HADLEY, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - A budget shortfall threatens to bring drastic staffing cuts to Hadley’s fire department. It’s causing concerns not only in Hadley, but surrounding communities as well.

Hadley Fire Chief Michael Spanknebel told us this has been the toughest year of his 25-year career and it’s going to get even more difficult in the days ahead. It all comes after voters rejected a tax override in September to fund the positions at the department.

Spanknebel said Tuesday that he is not sure which positions exactly would be lost. He confirmed he will have to cut at least two positions and would not be able to fill the vacant spots for both deputy chief and lieutenant.
