Rep. Dave Taylor (R-OH) confirmed that the U.S. Capitol Police were called to investigate a swastika inside his congressional office on Wednesday.

Politico obtained an image of the swastika embedded in a modified American flag that was pinned to a cubicle behind Angelo Elia, a staffer who works for the lawmaker. Social media reports suggested that the image was captured during a Zoom conference call.

It was unclear if Elia had any role in the incident.

"I am aware of an image that appears to depict a vile and deeply inappropriate symbol near an employee in my office," Taylor insisted in a statement. "The content of that image does not reflect the values or standards of this office, my staff, or myself, and I condemn it in the strongest terms."

Taylor "immediately" directed an investigation in cooperation with Capitol Police, he said.

"No further comment will be provided until it has been completed."

The office spokesperson suggested that the swastika was placed as a result of "foul play or vandalism."

On Tuesday, Politico exposed group chats from Young Republican leaders praising Adolf Hitler and joking about the Holocaust.
