PORTAGE — One person was killed in what the Portage Police Department called a "serious motor vehicle crash" on U.S. Highway 20 Wednesday afternoon, Portage Fire Chief Chris Crail told The Times.

As of 2:30 p.m., the stretch between Willowcreek Road and Old Porter Road remains shut down in both directions. The Portage Police Department did not specify when motorists could expect it to reopen.

First responders were dispatched at 1:23 p.m. to a "multi-vehicle accident" at the intersection between Douglas Drive and U.S. 20, Crail said. The crash involved "several" vehicles, including a semi-truck, he said.

Officials did not comment on the conditions of any of the other people involved in the crash.
