Alberta’s licence plate slogan is changing from “Wild Rose Country” to “Strong and Free.”
Premier Danielle Smith and Red Tape Reduction Minister Dale Nally announced the change on Wednesday at the Alberta legislature.
Albertans can vote on eight new licence plate designs, all showcasing Alberta landscapes, in a “tournament-style” online vote running now until Nov. 5.
The new plate design will be announced next month.
“Wild Rose Country” has been on Alberta plates for more than 40 years.
The idea of changing Alberta’s licence plate slogan has come up before. In 2007, then-Service Alberta minister Lloyd Snelgrove suggested updating the plate , noting the Province would “soon be forced to make a change because of the limited combinations for letters and numbers.”
