David St. Pierre, who retired as chief of Lewiston Police Department last month, has been nominated to serve as the U.S. marshal for the District of Maine.
The Marshal Service is the law enforcement arm of the federal courts. The top post in the District of Maine is currently vacant, according to the Marshal Service’s website .
Kevin Neal had been acting U.S. marshal in Maine from 2022 until June of this year before shifting to the same role in Massachusetts.
U.S. marshals are nominated by the president and must be confirmed by the Senate. St. Pierre was nominated on Oct. 2 for a four-year term.
St. Pierre worked for the Lewiston Police Department for more than 30 years and was chief of police from 2021 until his retirement last month.
