NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WMC) - The Tennessee Department of Corrections will transition from physical mail to scanned, digitized personal mail for inmates at all TDOC facilities.
This transition will begin on Nov. 3.
Inmates will receive their mail from friends, family, and loved ones at a centralized, off-site facility. There, it will be processed, scanned, and sent to them in a digital version on tablets provided by TDOC.
According to TDOC, this new procedure will deliver mail to prisoners more quickly and reliably while also reducing contraband and improving security.
Mail that complies with TDOC’s prison mail policy will be scanned and shown exactly as written on the inmate’s tablet.
The digital version will feature drawings and other allowed customization.
