Penelope Milford, best known for her starring role in the 1978 classic Coming Home, has died aged 77.
Her brother Doug confirmed the stage and screen actress died in her home in Saugerties, New York, on Tuesday.
She was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Vi Munson in the war film, which also stars Jane Fonda, Jon Voight, and Bruce Dern.
At the 51st Academy Awards, the film secured eight nods with Milford nominated alongside Voight and Fonda, who won best actor and actress.
Milford was also a Broadway star, earning a Tony nod after originating the role of Jenny Anderson in Shenandoah.
Off-Broadway, she starred with Richard Gere in the musical Richard Farina: Long Time Coming and a Long Time Gone and the pair are said to have dated throughout the 70s.
