The Surrey Police Service has submitted a proposal for a satellite police training academy to B.C.'s ministry of public safety and solicitor general.

Staff Sergeant Lindsey Houghton said if approved it would train at least 90 recruits per year, using the SPS's 65,000 square-foot training centre, instructors and in-house leaders familiar with the Justice Institute of BC's curriculum and practices.

Houghton said the proposal will benefit Surrey residents and businesses and enjoys support from City Hall and the Surrey Police Board.
