London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) has opened a new women’s minor procedure room offering pain management for common gynecological procedures, while alleviating pressure on operating rooms.

With the opening of the new room at Victoria Hospital, LHSC said in a news release it is “raising the standard of women’s health care” with its focus on reducing pain and enhancing the patient experience.

“There’s been a misconception that a lot of the procedures that we do are not painful when, in fact, we know they’re exceptionally painful and traumatic for many women of all ages,” said Erin Lovett, an obstetrician-gynecologist at LHSC. She said it was important to have a space where “appropriate pain control and sedation” can be provided for women undergoing painful procedures.
