A 3-year-old cat who arrived at a local animal shelter with paralyzed back legs is now recovering thanks to intervention from a Las Vegas rescue group, the organization said today in a news release.
Yoshi, who appeared to have been hit by a car, was transferred from the shelter to Homeward Bound Cat Adoptions after staff determined he needed extensive medical treatment beyond what the shelter could provide, the group said.
The cat was taken immediately to Tropicana Animal Hospital, where Dr. Christian Lay performed a femoral head ostectomy — a surgery that removes the damaged ball of the thigh bone to relieve pain and restore mobility.
The procedure revealed unexpected complications, the group said.
Lay discovered during surgery that Yoshi’s femoral head had already broken off and was
