BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. (WSAV) – A substantial grant is being awarded to Hopeful Horizons to help domestic violence victims afford legal expenses.
Congresswoman Nancy Mace pushed and advocated for the $500,000 grant after learning a startling statistic about domestic violence in South Carolina.
“South Carolina as a whole was ranked sixth in the country for the number and rate of domestic violence cases,” said Mace in a virtual press conference. “And a lot of times folks don't feel like they can get any kind of support, let alone afford support.”
The grant will give Hopeful Horizons the ability to hire one full-time and one part-time attorney, along with two full-time court advocate paralegals, for victims to access for free.
