Homeless deaths have doubled in Detroit, the Detroit News reports.
The data from Detroit isn’t exact, as it’s based on individuals the Pope Francis Center knows to be homeless. The center operates a transitional housing facility and a day center that provides meals, showers, and laundry services.
The News reports that the center recorded about 30 deaths annually from 2021 through 2023. That number jumped to 60 in 2024.
