Basement fire forces evacuation of BU Medical Campus building; no injuries

The Boston Fire Department reports an electrical fire around noon in the basement of the Houseman Medical Research Center, 778 Harrison Ave. in the South End, sent smoke throughout the BU Medical School Building, but did not result in any injuries.

The department reports the incident went to two alarms as firefighters worked to evacuate researchers and staffers.

The fire itself was confined to a single basement room, the department says.
