HARTFORD, Conn. (WFSB) - The tragic death of 12-year-old Jacqueline Torres has reignited discussions among lawmakers about implementing oversight measures for homeschooling.
Jacqueline was pulled out of school on the first day of sixth grade when her mother said she planned to educate her at home. Police say the girl was later abused and neglected by her family, with her body kept in a basement before her remains were taken in a container and left in the back of an abandoned home in New Britain. She was never reported missing.
The case has prompted renewed calls for legislative action to protect children who are removed from the public school system.
