EAST LANSING - Michigan State University Federal Credit Union removed card skimmers from a "small number" of ATMs on Sunday, Oct. 12, according to an announcement from the financial institution.

Card skimmers are small devices that interact with physical credit and debit cards, storing the card information for people to use to commit fraud.

Around two dozen people had their card information stolen, and the credit union has contacted those impacted, MSUFCU said in a statement. The credit union is working with law enforcement to identify who may have placed the skimming devices.

The devices were detected quickly by monitoring systems and immediately removed, according to the statement. It added that all ATMs are operational and secure.
