What is bacterial meningitis?

According to the Centers for Disease Control, bacterial meningitis is a kind of inflammation of the protective lining in the brain and spinal cord.

The disease can be serious and if not treated properly, can lead to death within a few hours, the CDC said.

Anyone who contracts the disease and recovers could have permanent disabilities because of it.
