A Lee County judge is expected to hold a preliminary hearing Wednesday morning for the man accused of capital murder in the death of a beloved veterinarian and professor at Auburn University.

Dr. Julie Gard Schnuelle, 59, a professor emerita in the Department of Clinical Sciences at Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, was found dead on Sept. 6 at Kiesel Park in Auburn, where she regularly ran and took her dogs.

Harold Rashad Dabney III, 28, of Auburn, is charged with two counts of capital murder in Schnuelle’s slaying - capital murder during a kidnapping and capital murder during a theft.

Lee County Circuit Judge Jeffrey Gerald Tickal is set to hold the hearing at the Lee County Justice Center in Opelika.
