A Quinte West OPP officer rescued a person from an Oct. 13 fire in Trenton, police report.

Police, Quinte West firefighters, and Hastings-Quinte paramedics rushed to Fifth Avenue at about 4 a.m.

“A witness, who was alerted by a smoke alarm, called 911 and then attempted to reach an occupant in a basement unit,” police stated in a news release. “The witness had to retreat due to heavy smoke.

“An officer, who was the first to arrive on scene, was able to locate the distressed occupant in a locked room and bring them to safety.”

The release stated the officer’s “quick and courageous actions” saved the other person’s life. The person received care in hospital; all other occupants managed to exit safely, police added.
