A more than four decade tradition is seemingly coming to an end in Quinte West.

The Kiwanis Club of Trenton has regretfully announced that the 43rd Kiwanis Walleye World Fishing Derby, scheduled for May 2026, will not be held. This difficult decision comes after ongoing challenges with declining service club membership and volunteer capacity across the Quinte Region.

For over 40 years, the Walleye World Derby has been one of Ontario’s largest annual fishing tournaments, attracting thousands of anglers and families to the Bay of Quinte region. In that time, the event has generated millions of dollars, which has been reinvested directly into Quinte West to support local charities, youth programs, food initiatives, seniors’ services, recreation facilities, memorials and community events.
