TOWN OF WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) - A dairy company that had been looking at building a $250 million processing plant in the town of Watertown is switching things up.

Southern Dairy is now considering land on Old Rome State Road in the town of Hounsfield.

The Texas-based company is thinking about building a 300,000-square-foot dairy processing facility.

It would use raw milk, skim milk and whey sourced from regional dairy farms to produce milk powders, whey protein concentrate and other dry dairy products like infant formula. The powders would be marketed both domestically and internationally.

When fully operational, the plant is expected to employ approximately 90 people.
