HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The Adams County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam in which callers impersonate law enforcement officers and demand money to avoid arrest.

Residents have been reporting calls from someone claiming to be from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, alleging they have failed to appear for court. The scammers then demand money to avoid arrest.

The sheriff’s office emphasized this is a scam and they would never ask for money over the phone or ask that you send cash, gift cards, Bitcoin or money transfers.

Local 4 received an email from a viewer who said their father fell victim to this crime with the scammer claiming to be with the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, naming a person who is no longer with the department.
