MOUNT VERNON, Va. — The historic home of America’s iconic first president will remain open despite the government shutdown .

Mount Vernon, George Washington’s home, is a privately owned, nonprofit institution that doesn’t receive government funding.

In addition to supporting those impacted by the shutdown, furloughed federal workers can receive a free Alexandria Key to the City pass , which includes 40 percent off admission at Mount Vernon.

Visitors should be aware that the mansion is undergoing a multi-phase, years-long revitalization project.

The New Room, the study, the servants’ hall, and the kitchen are open, but all other rooms are off-limits as part of the project, which started in 2023 and will continue through 2026.
